My name is Robert Lipparelli Akashi. I wanted to show you my hexagonal pergola video, and how I built something special in my garden. After surfing many sites, I found this UK site that was very informative.
The website owner, Di, was very helpful and gave lots of advice, as I said I hadn't made anything before and had no idea how to cut curves in wood. She said her plans were so simple, a 2 year old could build it.
A bold statement and so I thought, ok, let's put it to the test then, as I have a 2 1/2 year old boy!
This is my son, Hiromu's story....
The only problem is Hiromu now doesn't want to play with his toy tools, and wants to come down the pub with me!!
Ok, hand on heart, maybe not that easy, but not that far off. Considering I hadn't built anything with wood since my teens in woodwork class, let alone know how to cut in a straight/curved line, I am extremely pleased with the result.

Thank you for watching.
Rob.
It's a really great video, Rob! Little Hiromu looks as if he knows what he's doing! Good man!!
You have made yours as a wonderful walk through pergola along the pathway. I like that idea very much. Of course, as with all the pergola plans, they can be made to any size: a small structure as an interesting focal point or centrepiece (with a sculpture, birdbath or architectural plant inside); a walk through pergola (as yours is, with gorgeous climbing plants); and a larger diameter framework for relaxing, dining and full blown entertaining!
As well as structural size, the posts and rafters can be larger too. There is a lot of room for manoeuvre here. Larger structural size usually means larger timber size too.
Thank you so much for spending the time and effort making this video for us all.
You should be really proud of what you've achieved - both of you!
